9/11 Tribute

According to experts in natural history, canines chose to live with us as a species. I've often marveled at that fact.

I've also marveled at their devotion to us.

Today, I want to pay tribute to the dogs of 9/11, their handlers, the veterinarians who cared for them and anyone who made it possible for them to do their work. The rescue workers at Ground Zero would have been lost without them..

"When the last scene of all comes,
and death takes the master in its embrace,
and his body is laid away in the cold ground,
no matter if all other friends pursue their way,
there by his gravesite will the noble dog be found,
his head between his paws, his eyes sad but open in alert watchfulness,
faithful and true...
even to death."

there is an outstanding book out that is a tribute to all these dogs. each dog that worked the different sights of the 9/11 attacks is profiled and very interesting comments from their handlers. Now that six years have past many of these dogs are retired or passed away. hardly seems possible. the book is available at BarnesandNoble.com
